A national road tour of electric vehicles arrives in Alexandra to recharge, and demonstrate the potential of EV’s to change transport’s effect on climate change.
“Electric vehicles can now get you all over the country with low emissions, comfort and efficiency”: says the host for the Leading the Charge event John Grant, co-owner of Hawkdun Rise Vineyard. The fifth annual #LeadingTheCharge Great EV Road Trip commenced in Rotorua on the 28th of March, and wraps up on the 27th of April in Cape Reinga. They will be passing through various parts of Otago between 8th-13th April 2019. This epic national road trip will cover some 5200km+ and include over 40 roadshow type events during the 31-day tour. Leading the Charge aim to highlight the huge advances in EV charging infrastructure, EV ownership, battery tech, and public knowledge of the electrification of transport throughout New Zealand.
The national road tour will showcase the latest EV campervan from Britz, a high specification Tesla X, BMW i3 city car, the Nissan Leaf, PHEV Outlander and some commercial vans. Also joining us will be the latest Hyundai Kona , with battery range comparable to the Tesla of approximately 400+km. John Grant says “We are inviting motor vehicle dealers, travel professionals, fleet vehicle operators such as the CODC, Pioneer Energy, commercial vehicle users and existing vehicle owners to join us at Hawkdun Rise Vineyard to demonstrate these EVs and share the benefits and lessons learnt to date".
