The Mackenzie Country EV Weekend

Jun. 23 — 25, 2023 All Day Canterbury – Waitaha Otago – Ōtākou

A weekend away in the beautiful desert lands of the South Island's Mackenzie Country, beginning in Oamaru, with dinner together!

On Saturday morning, after exploring the Steampunk Museum and the steampunk-themed EV charger, we meander up the Waitaki Valley, visiting famous limestone rock formations at Elephant Rocks, negotiating our way over the top of two hydropower stations before arriving at Hot Tubs Omarama and the nearby accommodation.
Sunday offers the Clay Cliffs and visits the cheapest Hypercharger in New Zealand (only 60c per kwh!) before making an excursion up to Aoraki/Mount Cook where the hardy among us take a stroll to Kea Point. Others may choose to explore some of the food options around the village. From there, we head to Tekapo, visit a famous sheepdog and continue on to Burkes Pass Village and Fairlie. After an early dinner in Fairlie, we choose our separate ways home.
